Wednesday, September 24, 2003 - Is this wine or blackberry jelly? Looks very dark and thick. On initial opening this wine reaks of oak. Smells like a saw mill. Amazingly after 2.5 hours open, the oak is nearly fully integrated. This is the first sign that this wine is a legend in the making. Intense nose of mint, brooding black fruit (I am not sure what brooding means, but this wine is brooding.) sweet oak. Thick, lush mouthfeel followed by charcoal, black raspberry, and vanilla. No tannins to speak of until the soft subtle kick at the end. Wonderful balance. This wine is going to be a legend. I want to save a glass for tomorrow to see how it develops. It is taking will power (not that I have any) to lay off the rest. Day 2. Still massive. The wine has slightly softened to reveal more lush fruit. Even better balanced than the night before.
