I finally cracked my first 2001 Pride Cab. I was expectant as I opened it the same night a less than stellar review was posted on eBob. The wine is black. The nose is attractive, although holding back some, having lost most of its vanilla scent and now displaying a pure black fruit aroma seasoned with coffee and chocolate. Not the most expressive nose I have smelled, but still very attractive and fruity. In the mouth this is still unforgiving and very structured. Full bodied and tannic but offering a long finish and a hint of its future greatness. This is mountain cab city, so those claiming it's over the hill are doing so when the wine is barely entering into its adolescence. This has a long life in front of it and given the concentration and very sound fundamentals (great flavor intensity, balance between fruit and tannin), this wine will become better with yet more bottle age. No reason to worry if you own it.
