Tuesday, April 6, 2010 - Not sure if this is the result of storage, provenance, or what, but we popped this bottle last night and it wasn't even remotely over the hill. "Early drinking window" is more like it. We bought this at the BV winery in 2005 and it's been in climate-controlled storage since, and it shows no evidence whatsoever of approaching its last legs.

Color:clear, inky purple with a clear rim. No hint of bricking. On the first night, the nose was all blueberry pie and not much else. The palate was similarly one-dimensional: a lot of sweet fruit, a smidgen of remaining tannins, but not a lot to create interest or complexity. The wine was a satisfactory accompaniment to pan-grilled filets and baked potatoes, but not memorable. On night two, the wine improved - instead of being one-dimensional, it was two-dimensional: in addition to sweet dark fruits, I picked up a faint bit of mint and cedar. Still, hardly a compelling wine.

Despite what other reviews indicate, I think well-cellared bottles of this wine are in no danger of heading over the hill any time soon. However, with tannins mostly resolved, and no complexity to speak of, I'm not sure this is going to improve with more age.
