Saturday, December 31, 2022 - Pop and poured and served with an anchovy salad, which was a great pairing as the salad really made the acid in the wine pop. The aromas are fairly muted, with a lemon custard (without the sweetness) note. You certainly can sense the heft on the nose despite there not being much there. Medium-full body on the palate with a fair bit of minerality and acid, with a nice underripe lemon note here. Really round and luscious in the mouth. The finish dials up with quite a lot of quartz/stone/minerals/wet rock. Nice medium acidity on the finish, and the minerals is what lingers for quite a while with some slight bitterness. The wine is a little simple on the complexity front, but I do like the intensity it brings and is very balanced. Now... is that all this will give, or is it wound up and could unfurl with time? Considering the acidity and mineral depth, I suspect this will last for some time, actually. Despite this being 6 years old, it drinks like a new release. Perhaps with the age that's when things will get interesting, as the minerals and acidity fade and some tertiary development moves forward (of which there is none now)? Worth a try... I have two magnums, which should go slower, so perhaps I'll wait 5-10 years before touching the first one.
