Wednesday, November 10, 2021 - Purchased from a Eurocave storage in a small winebar/store in a little town in Provence for about half the Wine Searcher price with none being available in the USA at moment. Anyway of course youthful - pigmentation medium dark dull ruby - nose nice clean ready and complex with bright ripe red cherry fruit, sweet tobacco, charcoal and minty and floral notes. On the palate this wine demonstrates its enormity even more with bright acids in perfect balance w fine regal tannins buoying these aromas and flavors at length allowing a perfect decrescendo landing without a trace of loss of balance - just quietly slowly disappears. A complete pleasure. Why not 100? - Idk? 100 - being perfection - I guess is something I don’t feel able to assign. Maybe some with extensive tasting experience from the Hermitage slope might niggle about level of concentration but idk - I’d like to meet a better wine. Chave’s ‘15 also in Provence at half going rate is also on the level of complete pleasure with similar aromas and flavors even more concentrated and massive yet also more aggressively tannic which I am certain from reading will fall into complete balance in a few to several years.
