Friday, October 11, 2019 - I’m not sure I should really be allowed to write notes on the D&R Especial. My enthusiasm for this wine is just beyond rational proportions at this point, so take this with a grain or three of salt.
Anyway, while my last bottle of this took some time to open up after opening, shining brightest on day 2, this one was singing from the outset. Immediately on popping the cork, you get effusive aromas of red fruit, mainly raspberry. Light red in the glass, and soft and light on the palate. Like my previous note, the phrase dangerously glou glou comes to mind. It’s just so juicy and joyful. I think Keith once called a previous vintage of this something like a “Happy Funball.” This bottle was very much in that mode.
