Saturday, August 19, 2023 - 1 hour decant in glass. Dark garnet with dark brick edge in color. Muted nose of menthol, tar, licorice and dark fruit. On the palate: bitter dirt, muted dark fruit, black licorice and wood spice. Powdery tannins perceived on cheeks and gums...still with some grip, but unobtrusive and not negatively impacting the umami. Medium-to-long finish of wood spice and bitter tannins. I replaced the cork and circled back the next day to see if it had changed. The nose has become a bit less muted and popped notes of violet, but the wine was consistent as compared to day one. I am not rating this bottle as I suspect it was not properly stored by the merchant (I bought it the same day I drank it) and my experience does not seem consistent with notes from other drinkers. If I did rate this, it would have been 87.
