I had the Bussia 2016 a while ago which I thought were an off bottle due to the green/stemmy character which I did not find attractive at all. a few months later I got this one blind and it had the exact same pronounced nose. So I guess it is the style that just doesn't suit my taste. Having said that, I do see the quality of the wine but I just can't seem to abstract from the stemmy/green notes.

1 hour decant in glass. Dark garnet with dark brick edge in color. Muted nose of menthol, tar, licorice and dark fruit. On the palate: bitter dirt, muted dark fruit, black licorice and wood spice. Powdery tannins perceived on cheeks and gums...still with some grip, but unobtrusive and not negatively impacting the umami. Medium-to-long finish of wood spice and bitter tannins. I replaced the cork and circled back the next day to see if it had changed. The nose has become a bit less muted and popped notes of violet, but the wine was consistent as compared to day one. I am not rating this bottle as I suspect it was not properly stored by the merchant (I bought it the same day I drank it) and my experience does not seem consistent with notes from other drinkers. If I did rate this, it would have been 87.

A spectacular wine, with a lot of undergrowth, truffle, and then spicy notes, but with a sweet spice character. A beautiful fruit that travels through the back of the nose and the palate equally. A wine of dreams, with tannins and structure that suggest a truly eternal aging potential.

Classic vs. Modern Barolo Masterclass w/ Pomeroy MW; 9/1/2021-9/2/2021 (The Wine Sellar and Brassiere): Expected intense aromatics of dried cherry, potpourri, licorice, and dried herbs. Same intensity carries over to the palate where it picks up additional tertiary notes of leather and gamey meat. No new oak present. Grippy, dry tannins and screaming acidity. Never really opened up after an hour in the glass. Glorious potential if it ever comes into focus.
Tech notes: 20-30 day maceration, no new oak, 26 months in Slovenian oak casks. Helvetian soils ---> powerful, well-structured wines... which this certainly fits the bill.

A peek into 2015 Barolo (Osteria Langhe, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is perfumed and red fruited with red cherries, dark red berries, raspberries, licorice, roasted herbs, earth tones, spices, savory notes, violets, and thyme. There is excellent depth and elegance to this even at this young of an age.
Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, high acidity and chewy, high tannins. The structure is certainly youthful, but it isn't too overpowering with red cherries, raspberries, licorice, roasted herbs, savory notes, violets, and thyme.
Overall: This is clearly young, but it also feels like it will drink at an earlier age. There is a great red-fruited base with a savory take across the nose and palate.

Etter en snau time på karaffel: Kirsebær, roser, lær og litt krydder. Fyldig- vin med strålende syre og stramme tanniner. Struktur som muliggjør et langt liv. Konsentrert, rik og lang med perfekt sødme i avslutningen. Stor vin.

Nice layered wine with good length, medium to full bodied. Standard Barolo flavor profile with some dark fruit accents...
