2016 Peirson Meyer Cabernet Sauvignon

Community Tasting Note

94 Points

Monday, January 3, 2022 - This Cabernet from kenefick ranch never disappoints. It has a terrific balance between the fruit and savory notes of leather, smoke, earth and cedar with a hint of licorice. Medium body and mouthfeel, fine tannins. Nice finish. Good value for the money

1/25/2022 4:47:00 PM - Nice note. I’ve been trying to buy some of the 2016 vintage, however, I live in Michigan which is a restricted State for shipping so most stores won’t ship here. The Winery has the 2018 vintage but most of the 2018s that I’ve had need at least a year or longer in my opinion. I may have to buy some of the 2018 vintage to lay down. Take care.

1/25/2022 6:20:00 PM - Funny you should mention restricted shipping. same deal here in Pennsylvania. However, I received a wine shipment (Turtle Rock) from Plum Market today - I had to call to place the order because the website states they don't ship to my state.
If you call the winery and speak with James, he told me recently that they were planning on releasing the 2019s this month. I was going to grab a few bottles of the '18 and '19. I really like this style of Kenefick, it isn't overly done.

1/26/2022 5:02:00 AM - Really frustrating at times but I’ve found a couple stores that are willing to break the rules which is nice because there are wines like the Lewis Napa cab that have very limited distribution in Michigan. I’ll probably buy a couple bottles of the 2018 vintage this weekend to lay down. I noticed WA rated the 2018 vintage 95+. It’s getting harder and harder to find a legitimate mid-90 rated cab for around $100. Thanks for your thoughts.

1/26/2022 10:23:00 AM - thank you for all the great notes on the '18 Lewis. i have been trying to track down the few remaining bottles on the web that you might have missed. Just an FYI, the wine advocate rating on the '18 Peirson Meyer is by Erin Brooks, not LPB

1/26/2022 10:40:00 AM - I did notice that it was reviewed by Erin Brooks. I also found it interesting that the WA anticipated maturity is 2022 to 2038. 2022 seems early to me in light of my experience with most 2018s. I’ll probably reach-out to the Winery to get their thoughts. Thanks again.
