Friday, July 22, 2011 - Blind White Throwdown (Our House (2033 Brandywine St., Philadelphia)): In the 3 plus years since I last had this, my tastes have dramatically changed. That is not to say that my notes have changed -- they really have not. It just that what I appreciate and enjoy in wine has changed a lot. Over the top oak. The oak dominates. Port-like character on the nose blended with the oak. Cherry and blueberry. Very dense on the palate. Chocolate and cream but way too much oak at this stage, and not enough structure. The structure really is what bothers me. This is "tasty" in that it tastes good and is enjoyable to drink under the right circumstances. But from a "wine" standpoint, I have a hard time with it. It is an over the top, concentrated massive wine, and those have a place in the wine world, I suppose.
