Sunday, August 31, 2014 - Medium ruby color, a bit of bricking at the rims. Nose of sweet plum cake, roasted figs, caramel apple, mixed in with some underbrush, wet leaves, pipe tobacco and vanilla. Tart pomegranate and red currant fruit on the palate, with lots of wet leaves, moss and earth accents. Some pipe tobacco and campfire soot as well. Mocha-toast shows itself but doesn’t overwhelm. The fruit tastes a bit baked on the finish, dried out a bit as well. It came together well in the decanter, smoothed out and became more balance. Not the best aged Napa Cab, but good stuff and interesting.
