Wednesday, July 3, 2019 - Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Cellar Visit and Tasting (Chambolle-Musigny): An educational visit with François Millet. A wet 2018 spring was followed by a hot summer summer and drought. An August 30th harvest was the earliest at Vogüé since 1895! Everything was ripe - flesh, seeds and skin. The wine is 50-75% done with ML, based on cuvee, but there is so little malic acid that it is barely apparent. François says this is a vintage that truly expresses summer.

Barrel tasting at the domaine. An incredibly dark color made me expect all black fruit, but there is at least as much red as black cherry here. Very ripe aromas, then more complex palate with impressive balance already and a very bright finish. This can be a great version of the cuvee if the savory character dominates. 89-92 point potential.
