Sunday, August 30, 2020 - Ok get the gripes out of the way. Why, when you have nothing to prove through the stunning quality of your wine, do you put that annoying wax on top of the unnecessarily heavy bottle?!
So plenty of slick product marketing but then the website has not been updated since 2012. Look at the prices for the 2011s compared to this.
That said, this is a very exciting wine and a discovery. Worth the premium price too. A good example of a wine from the Caillottes soil type, ostensibly aromatic and early drinking.
Colour: pale straw with green tinge, bright, clear.
Nose: Elegant, fresh, ripe fruit yet almost discreet, mown grass, not raw blackcurrants, even hints of chalk.
Taste: Light body, rounded, ripe, good varietal fruit, citrus, chalky notes, great balance between fruit and acidity, long, very dry finish highlighting both SB and chalk. Great potential visible in the tension between ripeness and acidity.
Not being a lover of the concept of minerality, this wine does indeed reflect the chalky subsoil of this vineyard.
Perhaps churlish but I would rate this wine higher if the packaging were not so pretentious. It makes me suspicious.
