Sunday, June 5, 2022 - Popped and poured. Strong dill component in the nose to the exclusion of almost anything else. Pallet is marred by the same element. Will not rate at the present time, hopefully it blows off with time in the open bottle.

6/5/2022 9:29:00 AM - I would think mickle the pickle would like the dill component. But seriously, i have some of these bottles and won't open for several years. Thanks for the tip!

9/1/2023 10:01:00 AM - I've visited the estate and talked to Joel and Ellie Patterson on several occasions. My assessment of their intention for this wine is that it is a 20+ year aging wine. So you are indeed committing "wine infanticide" to drink this now. It does in fact age magnificently. Please be very patient, or if you really can't resist, give it a full decant for 3-5 hours. I have an almost vertical from 2001 through 2010 and the 2001 (which was not their best vintage) is just now coming into its own. Also remember this is a Mountain grown wine in the relatively cool Santa Cruz Mountains, it should be way different than a Napa version. It also does often have a slightly herbal character, often more like eucalyptus, akin to Heitz Martha's Vineyard. Cheers!

9/2/2023 12:48:00 AM - Greetings! I agree with you. I should have known better. This wine is like their neighbors, Ridge Monte Bello. Built to last and once they do, they are fabulous. Unfortunately, I'm at an age where I fear my wines will outlive me. The goal now is more modest: get to at least the beginning of the drinking window, then decant the hell out of the bottle. As an aside, the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Mount Eden are long lived as well, but don't take nearly as long to be approachable. I've got a 2013 PN I am going to open in the next year. Happy drinking!

9/2/2023 11:49:00 AM - Totally agree, I even think that sometimes the Pinot Noir is ready before the same vintage of Chard...like at 8 years. The chard at 10-15 is amazing. Also, I have resigned myself to the fact that my grandkids will enjoy most of my wine!
