Saturday, December 3, 2022 - Made in a more elegant and finessed style versus the sheer power of a Napa Cabernet. Shows very typical “markers” I associate with many Chilean Cabernet based reds: loamy, charcoal infused earth; steely iron; black coffee and green tobacco; fruits lead with red raspberries, and cherries; and a “present”, but non obtrusive structure (fine grained tannins, acidic backbone, charred oak). Love the evolving complexity, balance and long finish; wish there was a bit more fruit concentration. At 6-1/2 years this is in development, and I suspect more time may be advantageous. Decanted and enjoyed with a grilled ribeye steak and mushrooms. Drink now with a decant or hold through 2026+; although this is great right now, the cool, wet 2016 vintage might impact the long term cellaring potential.
