90 Points

Saturday, January 8, 2022 - Initially an 88 and later a 90: Decanted and opened up after an hour. Characteristics notably changed as opened up and warmed up ~6F.
To the nose, a mix of dark and red fruit evolves to dark fruit. Some forest floor and slight oak. On the palate, more fruit initially with red and black (cherries, blackberries, black raspberry) evolving darker with plum and blueberry notes joining. A slight funk initially (perhaps a meatiness from syrah) is gone when opens up, with very slight vegetal. Spices of black and white pepper more than sage, thyme and cinnamon. Good acidity and liveliness. Tannins in smooth strings. Slightly hot at 14.5%. Medium mouthfeel and length. Not complex, but enjoyable transition. Excellent QPR.
