  • Medium ruby colour. Medium and developing nose with strawberry, red cherry and tobacco. Medium taste of strawberry, red cherry, tobacco and chocolate. Long and dry finish. Medium (+) acidity. Medium tannins. Medium body. A very good Spanish Red. Drink now or over the next couple of years. Goes well with duck, pork or veal.

  • Pop'n'pour. Loads of pepper, sage and black raspberry, good nose on this off the bat. Full bodied yet fresh dark fruit, with a seam of fresh herbs. Significant tannins on the back end. Oak is not noticeable, 14.5% ABV not prominent.

Really a lot going on for ~$20 bottle, native yeast fermented, unfined/unfiltered, old vines, from vineyards at 1500-2000 feet elevation. Should be excellent in the mid-term.

Edit: Day 2, stored remainder overnight in swing top bottle at fridge temp. Going strong, consistent with previous notes, loving the 'garrigue' notes in this, like a Cotes du Rhone with a somewhat cool edge.

  • Initially an 88 and later a 90: Decanted and opened up after an hour. Characteristics notably changed as opened up and warmed up ~6F.
To the nose, a mix of dark and red fruit evolves to dark fruit. Some forest floor and slight oak. On the palate, more fruit initially with red and black (cherries, blackberries, black raspberry) evolving darker with plum and blueberry notes joining. A slight funk initially (perhaps a meatiness from syrah) is gone when opens up, with very slight vegetal. Spices of black and white pepper more than sage, thyme and cinnamon. Good acidity and liveliness. Tannins in smooth strings. Slightly hot at 14.5%. Medium mouthfeel and length. Not complex, but enjoyable transition. Excellent QPR.
