Sunday, July 19, 2009 - Popped and poured. Deep red/purple hue. Initially, the fruit really shows, with ripe black fruits, black cherry, and black currant on the nose with just a touch of heat. Further aeration reveals additional nuances of vanilla bean and fresh herbs (mint leaf, perhaps). Medium-plus body. Initially tight, the fruit really comes through after 60 minutes, the flavors matching the nose with additional nuances of anise, spice, and toast from the oak. Tannins are slightly astringent and even a bit chewy on finish. Very young, but all of the pieces are there.
