Saturday, July 22, 2023 - White Burgundy tasting @ K&L (K&L Wine Merchant - San Francisco): Aromas of ripe but awesomely balanced fruit flavors and a nice spiced note, it’s strong spice but very well balanced, and wet river pebbles. Nice richness but somehow manages to stay light and swift.

Drier fruit profile on the palate but leans more toward the minerals and prickly bitterness, and subtle dried stems. Dried, sun basked earth and dried crushed stones.

This was a bit disappointing for the price tag. Even with some time, this didn't improve much.

I just remember this being somewhat hefty but fell short on the flavors, they just didn't seem to hold up.. and I remember specifically saying to myself, "Oh, well that's no fun."

8/18/2023 10:55:00 AM - Appreciate your comment on my TN. On my TN viz your experience, I note that I had the bottle open for several hours prior to consumption, which was then over the course of a couple of hours. While Clyde and his staff undoubtedly know more about how to get a wine ready than I do, or probably ever will, that, along with the fact my vintage was a year older (and the ver present variation in palates), could also account for some of the disparity. While I pretty much love all of the Aubert SVD chards, I thought the Lauren we had at the tasting was particularly outstanding, and the Morlet CdC (I haven’t had any of their other chard cuvees) is brilliant, a big step up over other well regarded CA labels like Peter Michael and Kistler (I’ve not had Konsgaard, except for their second label, or Marcassin chards—different level of altitude than I usually travel at, so I can’t opine). Appreciate your notes on the K&L tastings. I went to their Pontet dinner about 6 months ago, but haven’t done a tasting with them since before the pandemic. You remind me that I need to keep an eye on what they’re pouring. Cheers!

8/18/2023 12:09:00 PM - If you fancy champagne, they're doing a big event some time in October, I won't be able to go. But it's like $150 to taste like 60 different producers or something like that. Food is included too, that's definitely something you should check out!
