Wednesday, February 16, 2022 - By the bottle at Barndiva in Healdsburg, CA. Nose is dark-fruited with plums, blackberries, a slight green complexity and a violet floral lift on the end. Palate is smooth and ripe but not too rich: more dark fruits (black cherries and plums) and five spice. Very balanced, but not the longest finish in the world. It’s gaining lift and freshness and complexity with air though; I’d recommend decanting. A good if not quite great pairing with the duck breast and actually with the dashi broth trout as well. Not cheap, but quite delicious especially as it opens up.
