Does not like this wine:

85 Points

Sunday, October 10, 2021 - I wouldn’t exactly say I didn’t like it but there are other Rioja I would prefer. I did appreciate how the fruit leapt out of the glass. Along with it though was heavy heavy oak. Rioja and oak, yes I know, but there can sometimes be too much. On the palate it translated to reminiscences of my father’s pipe and vanilla.

4/29/2023 3:13:00 PM - I am tasting it now, same experience. They toasted the oak to much -> vanilla and pipe. I prefer the "old style" with old casks that do not influence the wine with vanilla. That is why I am a terroirist with a hart for Burgundy and cooler climat wines now. Drinking great Bordeaux (Pauillac, Pomerol aso) from the seventies and eighties in the nineties but it is to hot now there, the wines changed 20 years ago with the Parker devil. Lucky enough he does not like fine elegant wines and only "blockbusters" :-)
