Pre-global warming Chateauneuf du Pape no prior destemming and the door was closed. Like Bordeaux of the era it wouldn’t have been drinkable for the first 10-15 years. Reminds us of the story of the 1959 Antonio Ferrari Solaria Jonica

5/8/2020 11:04:00 AM - Thanks a lot for this note. I read about the story and bought a case without knowing what to expect, including whether the wine would be drinkable at all. What's your verdict?

7/25/2020 4:17:00 PM - I suspect that's the impact of 50 years in concrete rather than bottle. If it was topped up with a newer vintage they'd be committing wine fraud if it wasn't labelled as non vintage. 50 years in bottle isn't the same as 50 years in concrete!

We Wonder also if the amount of stems and all they used to use helped preserve. An impressive living being, wine is as master yoga would say.
