Pronounced nose intensity with notes of black and red fruits, toast, spices, forest floor. Medium acidity and medium tannin. Bottle is in pristine condition.

Garnet hue but not as pronounced as you might think for a 50+ year old wine. Great nose of stones and flint, like a lighter being struck or gunpowder. Also strawberry and leather… and gardeners lime. Still has nice fruit, mainly strawberry and sour cherry. Perfect acidity, great with food…. interesting notes of rhubard, sage, mushrooms, some smoke like a lit match….pecan or walnut coming through as well. Great balance, just so nicely integrated. Really a pleaser… hats off to Xavier Vignon for wherever he dug this up and how he was able to preserve it so nicely. Enjoyed at the Grand Resort @ Avalon Lakes Country Club.

Decanted half an hour before service. Some bricking. Aromas of red berry fruit and white pepper with a bit of brett lurking in the background. Flavors of mulberry, clove, red berries, herbs and mushroom. Not as barnyardy or acidic as our last bottle, this is very nice and paired well with a beef tenderloin roast.

So fresh and drinkable. Eternal question: is the story true?

Super funky smell. Almost overwhelming. Taste was good. Peppery and herbal taste. Fun wine to try. Probably wouldn’t drink again though.
