Friday, June 3, 2022 - The 2018 Rosso di Montalcino starts out nuanced, with hints of rose, bright cherry and cedar, yet time in the glass brings forward a deeper mix of autumnal spice, tangerine and plum. There's an inner sweetness here that travels directly from the palate to the pleasure centers of the core, contrasted by stimulating acidity, with vivid strawberry complemented by mint and clove. While potent and prominent, this never loses its lifted, airy persona, like a trick of the mind, as it tapers off long with sweet tannins and hints of tobacco. There's no rush to open your bottles, but at the same time, with air, the 2018 is currently drop-dead-gorgeous. How much better can the Brunello be?
