Sunday, March 26, 2023 - With a little 1998 left over from the night before I decided to kill this 375 way too early. But, it did make for a fun side by side.

With 20 years of between them the classic terroir notes of Eisele vineyard are still unmistakable. I suspect the Pinaults will continue to raise the pricing till it's equal to Latour. This is first growth Napa and the prices will reflect that. Now the pricing is going to suck but the writing is on the wall to grab what you can of older vintages.

Stunning in structure. Ripe dark bramble, unsweetened dark chocolate, think 85% cacao. Anise, tobacco and wet gravel. All locked up behind pixelated fine tannins.

Hold

I suspect the 19 Napa wines will be doing the same soon, although the few we decided to pull in the last month were still dancing nicely on the palate. This just goes to show you how much vintage plays a part in everything.

3/31/2023 9:15:00 AM - As you know I killed my order on 19 after tasting it at Eisele. My whole experience is jaded and now I'm unsure if what was in front of me was 19. With that said, I'll buy some 19 on the secondary market to see what the fuss is about. I have no doubt 18 is a 30 year wine. Meaning I think the drinking window starts 2028 and doesn't end for at least another 20 years after.

3/31/2023 9:18:00 AM - I agree that Eisele rewards the best with age as indicated by the phenomenal Araujo's. I got an 08 in the wings, waiting to see when I want to pull this at the 15yo mark. I think personally, I still want a bit more fruit, so I've been noticing for my palate, Napa wines are best in the 15-20yo range for me.

I killed a 375mL bottle for WBW because he had a not so good experience at Eisele with the 19 as well. I had a bit of food poisoning, so opening the 375 was for me too. That being said, the 19 was very very good.
