Sunday, July 18, 2010 - The Amon Ra ’06 is an incredibly thick, intense and concentrated monster of a wine. Its color is reddish black and viscosity is reminiscent of freshly drawn blood. Only after a 5 hour decant does its amazing complexity begin to emerge evoking the sensation of luscious blueberries, ripe boysenberries, menthol, dark chocolate and black pepper on the nose as well as the palate. At this juncture, the wine is still in its infancy with a lot of growing up to do. Perhaps another 5 to 10 years of cellar time to do wonders for this wine of great depth, power and balance. This is definitely a big, bold and beautiful old vine shiraz of massive proportions that will continue to develop over the next several decades.
