Wednesday, March 16, 2011 - Aussie Gems (Smith & Wollensky - Washington, DC): On the nose this was full and rich with blueberry jam, blackberry, baking spice and a hint of vanilla. There is a lot of material here but it is very primary. On the palate this is lush and broad, but with enough acid and a good tannic grip which I think will allow for a nice development over time. It is very young. The mouthfeel is both rich and velvety while the wine gives way to a long lingering finish. It is good right now if you're in the mood for a fruit bomb, but I think this wine has the stuffing to mature into something really interesting.
