Wednesday, August 23, 2023 - "Slow Decanting" this young spatlese over a couple of weeks with the Vinloq System

DAY 1
👃Careens from the chilled bottle with limes and apples plus minerality & petrol
👅Sweetness leads. Fruit, florals and acidity follow. The minerality is there for the finish. The acidity is fresh and palate cleaning. Lip smacking, if you will

The remaining wine was Slow Decanted for 18 days in my refrigerator

DAY 18
This hasn't budged during the interim. Apple, peach, pear with lime on the finish. The standard hallmarks of Falkenstein are present with the extra midpalate density seen in so many 2019 German riesling. Classy. Fresh. Clean

This 2019 is just getting started. It is delicious in this youthful, energetic state. I cannot wait to see where this goes as it develops over time in the cellar🥂

    8/28/2023 8:46:00 PM - Appreciate your note.

Quality Mosel Riesling is generally bullet-proof, in my experience. Ive attended numerous tastings where the producer has pulled bottles from their fridge that were opened months earlier, and they remained in good condition.

I’d go as far to say that many Mosel rieslings need some oxygen exposure to show their best. When living in Germany (where the wines were more accessible and affordable, and my attitude perhaps a bit more blasé) I got into the habit of double decanting Mosel Riesling in the morning, in order to drink them at night and over the following days.
