Wednesday, May 12, 2021 - Napa 2021 Trip; 5/10/2021-5/13/2021 (Napa Valley, CA): The Clone 7 of the BTKs in the Carter lineup. Clone 337 is the OG and Clone 4 is Grand Daddy.

Dark purple, glycerol, chewy tannins. Dry finish with a touch of mocha. Gf did not enjoy as much (but likely needs more time). Good potential but hold for now.

I have a mixed case of the '18s with two bottles of each so if I open one too early I do have a backup. I have not yet had the pleasure of tasting any of their wines so I'm flying blind.

5/16/2021 3:23:00 PM - Seth, I typically drink my Carters within 5 years. Not to say they won't age further, but they are just too damn good to not pop the cork on them. Mike definitely makes them to drink well early. I think Mark (among others) have had some experience with waiting 7+ years on these and the wines have been good, but not as explosive as in their youth. That being said, the 2018s seem uptight compared to the right out of the gate goodness of 2015, 2016, and even 2017. I think holding one of these until at least the fall is good guidance here.

5/16/2021 7:25:00 PM - Sean, I agree......I did pop a LaBam last week but it needed a quadruple splash decant and then had only about 1 good hour of a drinking window.

Seth, they are way better than 7 months ago on release but they need about 7 more months to really get going I think?
