Friday, March 29, 2024 - Due to the large production (about 200k bottles/year) this white Pessac-Léognan is widely available. I drank several vintages of it: the first one, bought at the Château during the legendary hot summer of 1976, was from vintage 1975, my son’s birth year. The quality is always at least good, seldom sensational. This 2019 is a typical specimen, composed of 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Sémillon and vinified and aged in partly new oak barrels. It has a very pale yellow color with a greenish hue, a grassy nose with a, not unpleasant, touch of cat-pee ( I am crazy about these fascinating animals 😀)and the creaminess of the Sémillon gradually breaking through. On the palate you can find citrus, melons, pineapple and grassy Sauvignon with minerality and a bracing acidity. The new oak is very well integrated. A good companion for to night’s fried cod. You can drink it now or over the next 5 years depending on your preference.
Diam cork!
