  • Drank over the course of an hour, with the last bit the best of the evening. The wine's color is a medium straw yellow. The nose has lemon/citrus, with whiffs of pineapple and mango. These later become more pronounced on the palate. The lemon/citrus returns on the finish, which is quite long. The palate also has notes of saline and mineral (limestone?). The wine has s medium body with good balance between fruit and acid. A wonderful pairing with moules-frites. ABV 13%.

Tech notes: 65% Sauvignon Blanc, 35% Semillon. Fermentation in barrels, averaging 10 days. Aging: 25% new oak with lees stirring, 4 different volumes, about 10 months. pH 3.1.

  • Due to the large production (about 200k bottles/year) this white Pessac-Léognan is widely available. I drank several vintages of it: the first one, bought at the Château during the legendary hot summer of 1976, was from vintage 1975, my son’s birth year. The quality is always at least good, seldom sensational. This 2019 is a typical specimen, composed of 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Sémillon and vinified and aged in partly new oak barrels. It has a very pale yellow color with a greenish hue, a grassy nose with a, not unpleasant, touch of cat-pee ( I am crazy about these fascinating animals 😀)and the creaminess of the Sémillon gradually breaking through. On the palate you can find citrus, melons, pineapple and grassy Sauvignon with minerality and a bracing acidity. The new oak is very well integrated. A good companion for to night’s fried cod. You can drink it now or over the next 5 years depending on your preference.
    Diam cork!

  • (25-1) Rose geranium and passion fruit on the nose. On the palate it’s rather intense as these aromas are enhanced by firm acidity. Medium length (92pts).
(28-1) After three days open in the fridge, the wine softened markedly and I liked better (93pts). My wife liked it better the first night however, when green flavours and acidity dominated.

  • My first of the ‘19’s and very approachable. Very intense flavors of tropical fruits and yes the cat pee is there too. Nicely acidic, the SB dominates for now.

  • I can't get past the typical sauvignon blanc gooseberry (if I'm kind, its more like cat pee) note, paired with bell pepper and passion fruit. I'm hoping some age will help make the semillon a bit more prominent.
