Sunday, July 3, 2022 - Perfumy nose. This is so intense, concentrated and inky dark, but it is also so well integrated and plush. Gobs of black cassis, blackberry and vanilla. There are some secondary nuances peeking out after some decanting, but for now it is about the concentration and purity fruit. The wine is energetic and lively at this stage of its life. Totally impressed with this wine. It kind of has the characteristics of Pritchard Hill wines from Napa, but with more class and elegance. Love it!

Can you open a bottle now and if so how much air time does it need? I like young bdxs but some are just way too closed and its just a waste.

It did hit a bit of dumb/dead phase after an hour or so of airing. After a couple more hours it left the dumb stage and emerged as a beautiful wine. Hope that helps.

7/27/2022 12:02:00 PM - FYI, the Cazes family acquired Haut Batailley in 2017. The Cases family are known for Lynch Bages and Ormes de Pez. I think Haut Batailley is a chateau on the rise.
