Very well made, and stylistically, almost a cross between St. Julien and Pauillac. Has cassis, graphite and spicy tobacco notes on the nose, with a core of lush black raspberry and plum fruit. Lovely purity here, with nice lift from the acidity and smooth tannins on the back end. On the higher end of the ABV spectrum for the vintage at 14.5%, but doesn't show any heat. I doubt I'll live long enough to see whether this has the longevity of excellent vintages like the '64, but this has the makings of a modern classic.

Perfumy nose. This is so intense, concentrated and inky dark, but it is also so well integrated and plush. Gobs of black cassis, blackberry and vanilla. There are some secondary nuances peeking out after some decanting, but for now it is about the concentration and purity fruit. The wine is energetic and lively at this stage of its life. Totally impressed with this wine. It kind of has the characteristics of Pritchard Hill wines from Napa, but with more class and elegance. Love it!
Premium Bordeaux 2019 Assemblage Zoom tasting. Drank in Grassl 1855. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purple colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of blueberries, purple fruits, black plums, blackcurrant, blackberries, fragrant fresh wood spice. Developing. On the palate, dry, just about high acidity, medium+ alcohol, fine mouth-coating high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, blueberries, black plums, sweet woody spices, cinnamon, smoke and graphite pencil lead. Long finish. Very good quality. Developing along finely. Keep.

Not very expressive on the nose, with some dark fruit and spice. Reserved / closed.
Very structured and rather clunky. Muscular, serious, densely packed wine which harkens back to Parker era Bordeaux during which bigger was better.
Not a charmer. Possibly you could call it ‘classic’ but it’s elevated alcohol, extraction and tannin don’t make for a particularly charming drink now.
For the long haul certainly, but I wonder whether what you’d end up with would be worth fifteen years wait. Atypical of 2019 ?
