Likes this wine:

88 Points

Thursday, February 7, 2013 - The wine is a nice blue-plum red. Nose is a very fruity with some chocolate notes. The wine has a really nice dry texture with lots of muddled berry fruits and a bitter cassis mid-palate and a smooth oaky flavor. The finish is primarily oak and tannin. To be sure this is a nice wine but not as good as I expected; there is not enough layering nor does it strike me as very complex. My perspective is if a wine hits $50 retail, it should unquestionably break the 90 point barrier; this was not a 90 pointer in my opinion.
My wife and I had this by itself, and with rare beef tenderloin, sweet potato, and an avocado/pomegranate seed “salad”. It did ok with all these items especially the beef but the pomegranate seeds washed out much of the fruitiness of the wine.

2/8/2013 2:10:00 PM - After writing this I looked at my 05/2012 review of the 2006. It looks like the 05 and 06 struck me almost identically...It looks like I am consistent if nothing else!
