Saturday, January 1, 2011 - served this for new year's day dinner at selkirk manor. shared with pat, ellen and mahesh. paired with colossal shrimp (boiled then chilled). i opened this bottle since available reviews did not portend great longevity. the wine was initially somewhat flabby. after a few minutes it developed a hefty nose of walnut and hazelnut. mahesh detected granny apple. the wine improved somewhat as it warmed from fridge temperature to room temperature. overall, the wine was very enjoyable and offered a good introduction to puligny-montrachet for which we have limited tasting experience. nevertheless, it was somewhat disappointing in comparison with my expectations. re-reading wine advocate note, it appears that the winemaker went a little too far in creating a dry wine to satisfy my taste preferences. i am glad that i obtained this wine at a deeply discounted price. i do not see this wine improving with additional bottle age.
