Sunday, May 18, 2008 - Few wines but riesling have such a clear-cut varietal character. The Eroica tastes to me much like the German rieslings I've purchased. Peach, nectarine, tangerine, and "slate of the Mosel." (I will say that I think this wine needs more acidity--it's unbalanced to my taste. It also lacks the floral and honeyish aromas that I'm accustomed to.) Sweet and carbonated. Can you give me more? Instinctively I like this wine, but I feel that I know what it's going to taste like before I open the bottle. That said, this is similar to but not quite on par with the well-regarded German rieslings I've had. This wine is so widely available at restaurants and food friendly that's a good standby to know about.
