Drank after a French Viognier. Paired well with seafood stew containing crab, lobster, clams, salmon, expertly assembled by Batya. Wine displayed nose of petrol, white flowers. Off-dry palate had stone fruits, lemon, honey. Just enough acid to balance sugar.

This wine tasted much better than my previous experiences; is was off dry without being overly sweet; is was acidic without being tart; and was aromatic without being overly floral. Time has changes this one.

Medium yellow, nose of apples, minerals, spice and a titch of petrol, even a bit of brioche - palate has a lot of body, lots of weight and texture, so it does come off as being big and bold, and it even seems tannic - sweetness is well checked, and only plays around the edges and is easily kept in check by the adequate, although not high, acidity - slightly absent and short on finish, not the best part, and aftertaste is a bit diffuse - but overall, very nice

Good dry riesling with nice acidity and light floral and harvest fruit notes. Drier than I expected it to be given the Dr. Loosen connection - for some reason, I was under the impression that these were more of a Spatlese-style off-dry wine. Paired well with Indian food.

Significantly different than last time I had it. It has put on weight and is not quite as sweet. A slight waxy character to it, but still lemon-limey frame. Still seems to have a good future, however I have no more to verify this. Enjoy.

I forgot how good this wine was. I've passively stored it for some time now and it opens fresh and spritzy, with smooth floral notes on the nose and smooth honeyed notes in the mouth. I am impressed at how refreshing and crisp a wine with such a honeyed flavor can be. Also a fantastic QPR at ~$20.

A decent choice to accompany an Asian-inspired pork offering that Dulcie was conjuring up of a Sunday, as is her wont; compared to a modest Mosel I had quaffed but hours earlier, this offered a lot more intensity, orchard fruit, some tropical nuances, decent acidity but not witheringly so, nice concentration. Overall a decent wine but not exceptional.

NOish. Perhaps influenced by slight corked aspect. But, could tell through it that the wine has good flavor and acidity but not exception by any means. A bit too normal.

Light straw colored. Surprised to get petrolas dominate aroma on the nose. Also had a touch of spice. On the palate apples and a touch of dried apricot for me. Bracing acidity still present, but short finish. This isn't the wine I remember which heretofore has been one of my favorite American Rieslings. Shouldn't be past it's prime, but seems to be?

This is such a good everyday wine. If I sit down to eat and have to decide between a soda or wine, I always go for this wine. I love how it smells very floral and has a strong honeyed taste to it, along with a good deal of acidity to finish up the taste. It's pretty hard to go wrong with a Riesling in general, and this is a simple but solid wine.

Broadly agree with gbm below: Decent fruit but not much else - possibly useful with Asian food as a quaffer. Consistent with the other bottle of this that I had previously. Unimpressive.

Acidity dominating fruit at this point; still showing pear flavors, but more than offset by biting tart apple acidity, reducing score from previous bottles. Still a nice riesling, but time to drink up.

Because of the circumstances, this was opened and drunk shortly after a very good German spatlese, so didn't show as well as it usually would. But we drank more the next day (Dec. 25) and it was tasting good but not quite as good as I remember from the past. There was some lack of fruit adn the underlying acidic structure wasn't quite as strong as in the past. Nonetheless, a very drinkable wine that I will look forward to drinking in the future, maybe with a little more age.

Never had a bad bottle of this wine. Exceptional nose of granny smith apples and pear. Wasn't shallow on initial taste, mid-palate, or finish. Good acidity. Paired with olive garden knock off soup with more spice than normal. Good pairing.

Found this to be a little sweeter than I remember. Sweet pears. Much more interesting after it warms up. I would not chill this too much. There was a mineral, almost oily characteristic this time. Don't remember that from before. A nice change of pace though, from the grapefruit, citrus SBs I've had in recent months.

Pale straw color in the glass. Petrol, tangy citrus, and some funk (which blew off quickly). As it warmed it, the fruit came forward. Nice acidity. This is a nice wine with food, and I believe that it will continue to drink well over the next 1-2 years.

This would be the best American Riesling I've had. It is elegant, and refreshing, without that cloying aftertaste that some lesser rieslings have. Citrus notes, and a hint of honey and summer in it.

Bright yellow color with a strong dose of petrol on the nose. Crisp green apple & pink grapefuit dominate the initial attack. Laser-like acidity slices straight down the middle of the tongue. Midpalate stays intense & focused, displaying abundant steely, slate-like minerality. Picks up some weight as it warms, but never gets too sweet. Could easily pass for a higher priced German Kabinett. Superb value. [12.5% abv.; $19.00].

Drank with spicy Asian the first night and then alone on the second. Paired well with the Asian food. COLOR: Pale yellow. NOSE: Fruity - apples, pears. TASTE: Fruity, again, but not enoug minerality/acidity to balance it. Nice finish, but nothing special. OVERALL: Disappointing. I was expecting more. A little too sweet for me, too. I prefer my Rieslings drier. (3+11+14+6)

Light yellow. Definite Reisling nose. I can't really accurately describe the various components but apple and slight petrol come to mind. Really nice sweetness balanced by a fair bit of acid. Spatlese level sweetness IMHO. A very well made wine. Made by Dr Loosen. "The Germans always make great stuff."

Very enjoyable, better than the '05. A terrific nose of sharp, tart green apple. Nice acidity. On the palate, star fruit, honey, pineapple, even some creaminess. (I read lime below and I agree) Long finish. Just delicious. I'd love to try this wine in another year or two. I bet it will only deepen and become more interesting.

Pale yellow in the glass. The nose has virtually no fruit, but nice minerality and is slightly perfumed. However, the palate explodes with peach and pear on the front end before giving way to pineapple, lemon, and lime on the mid and back palate. The tropicality continues on a long finish. This wine is very crisp with nice acidity, and is more European in style. I was very pleased with it. A little pricey, but worth a try.

Excellent. Nose has lots of minerality, unripe green apples and a touch of apricot. On the palate, the acidity is wonderfully high (which holds the wine up very well as it warms in the glass) and the wine a little heavier than a number of recent Rieslings I've had, though not massively so. The acidity gives this a lovely clean mouthfeel and combats the slight sweetness very well (this is off-dry). Very zesty, a little floral, with a similar finish transitioning to quite sweet apple juice after 5 seconds or so. Cost $20. My first US Riesling and a success.

Swordfern Wine Tasting #9: Riesling (Paul & Kelli's: Seattle, WA): Drank this as a warm-up Riesling before the main blind tasting. Lovely nose of creamed figs that reminded me more of Semillon than of Riesling. On the palate, juicy pineapple flavors and huge acidity that for me ventured into the realm of tartness. Nice, long finish.

Nose: Slate mineral with a little petrol. Palate: Nice spritziness with some of the mineral characteristics coming through. Somewhat dry styled (in between a Kabinett and a Halbtrocken). Rather simple but well made in this east meets west collaboration of Dr. Loosen & St. Michelle.

Very good riesling...tastes a lot like the german rieslings I've had. Very light in color, almost a spritzy feel in the mouth. Very tangy citrusy flavors, some mineral and floural components, good crisp acidity, then ends with a touch of sweetness. Goes great with shrimp cocktail.

A great wine for making chicken piccata - coat pounded out chicken breasts in seasoned flour - brown in a few tablespoons of oil. Take out the chicken and keep warm - add pre-cooked, choopped garlic (microwave works) to the pan and de-glaze the pan (there should be some flour in the pan... if not, brown a little more flour before degalzing) with 1 cup of this wine, plus 1 cup of chicken stock, few tablespoons of lemon juice. Reduce until it gets close to a consistency you like and add some capers. Plate the chicken and dress with the sauce. Voila! Chicken picatta. Maybe some angle hair pasta on the side... Serve with a good Pinot Noir or nice Chardonnay and wine preserve this wine for the next time you need a bright, white wine for cooking.

This is at the high end of good. Tropical fruits and honey on the nose. Apple and nectarine flavors, mixed with a nervy, pineapple acid. A pleasant, if faint, mineral character on the finish. There's some residual sugar, but this reminds me more of dry Aussie/Kiwi Riesling than a European one. It's fresh, crisp, unpretentiously straightforward.

Had this after a German riesling that made it seems somewhat simple compared 2 other times I've had it. But still very nice floral notes on the nose. Pretty big acid on the palate w/nice lime, grassy & toast notes. Tasted last night while at work...it's a young Riesling...and I'm not getting the acidity I'd like to see from this. It's simple, light, and easy to drink. A more sweet styled Riesling than I would have expected...or preferred at this point.

Cad with Crab Newburg, which overwhelmed the wine completely, bad pairing; wine was a little too 'off dry', coupled with a simple tartness made it seems a little bit too much like a sweet tart; realtively disappointing, not a bad wine, but nothing distinctive.

Don't you just love a wine that is so consistent year after year and is also so food friendly? Had this last night with a simple dish of a wild salmon filet, evoo, s&p, fresh dill & a few lemon slices wrapped in tin foil and onto the grill. Wow!!! what a combo, the citrus in the fish and the citrus and hint of sweetness with the wine was fantastic. Still the best riesling from the USA. Also is not riesling in general the best all around food wine? It seems to with just about anything. Will buy more next time I'm in WA at Costco.

When my female partner wants to talk about a wine you know it has to be special and this is a woman who really appreciates Rieslings. Compared nicely with her love of German Rieslings vis a vis crispness and fruit. Adequate finish. I agree...of course. Plus, drinking it keeps the $ in the good old USA. Chateau Ste. Miichelle is very hard to beat in general. Brava.

Few wines but riesling have such a clear-cut varietal character. The Eroica tastes to me much like the German rieslings I've purchased. Peach, nectarine, tangerine, and "slate of the Mosel." (I will say that I think this wine needs more acidity--it's unbalanced to my taste. It also lacks the floral and honeyish aromas that I'm accustomed to.) Sweet and carbonated. Can you give me more? Instinctively I like this wine, but I feel that I know what it's going to taste like before I open the bottle. That said, this is similar to but not quite on par with the well-regarded German rieslings I've had. This wine is so widely available at restaurants and food friendly that's a good standby to know about.

Light straw color with a bit of frizzante. Not an overly aromatic nose but some citrus notes with a stone/minerality aspect. Crisp on the mouthfeel but could have used a bit more acidity. Faint apple and pear flavors on the palate with not much of a finish. Enjoyable wine but can't compete with German rieslings at the same price point.

Mosel Light. That's what I'm calling it. It's wants to be like a good German Riesling, but just misses the mark. It sports some nice nice Jolly Rancher green apple, but it's a little on the light side. It hints at that minerally Mosel character on the nose, but lacks the lip smacking zip that I'm looking for in a Riesling. It did really well with dinner - caprese salad of miniature heirlooms, mozarella, and basil, followed up with shrimp, grilled shell on, dressed with a quick squueze of fresh lemon and garnished with some grilled leeks. With some nice summer fare, I'd bump it up a point or two.

Right off the bat, I'm a great fan of Chateau St. Michelle Riesling. This wine was 2x the price of the standard CSM Reisling. Initial nose-oak barrel filled with ripe green apples and honeydew. Initial taste is of a crisp carbonated green apple. Butter/carmel/citrus mid-palette. Finish is long with a floral tartness. I would definitely buy this again although I feel this bottle is $2-$4 overpriced for what it is (bought for $18.99). Would be great with fruit or fish with a spicy sauce. Overall rating-87.

Vibrant flavors of peach, stone and slate, with melon, green apple, lime and maybe even some pineapple hovering in the background. Terrific acidity. Unbelievably long and super-tangy finish. Off dry. Light bodied and light golden color, nose of apple pie, exotic fruit including pineapple and melons, very bright and fruity, acidic bite, slight off dry finish. Straw yellow; honeysuckle, limes, orange peel; sweet lime, slightly minerally, elegant, light body, tangy acidity, good balance, decent structure, lingering finish. We drank this with Greek Chicken Pasta (Artichokes, Garlic, Onions, Feta, & Tomato) on 11/26/07. It was perfect. The first thing I thought of when smelling it was the ocean (the mineral smell thats released when the waves pound the rocks) . It also had a very fresh, floral, lemon / lime aroma. It was not too dry or sweet. It certainly had a lemon / lime taste. There was a hint of mineral with a good lingering finish.

Honey on the nose, with red apple, peach, and even a tea note on the palate. It's ripe, but fairly dry, and superbly balanced, with an unbelievably long finish that's well above this wine's price point. Even better than recent vintages, and you just can't beat it for $16. (Tasted twice, on 10/13/07 and 4/12/08, with roughly consistent notes. I noticed a bit more lime the second time around, and I thought the overall quality was good, but not as good as I had remembered. I downgraded it a point.)

Found this to be a little sweeter than I remember. Sweet pears. Much more interesting after it warms up. I would not chill this too much. There was a mineral, almost oily characteristic this time.

Heard about it on Wine Podcast...little dissapointed, not overly strong in any area, no need to buy again

nose - wet rocks, figs, flowers
off-dry
in the mouth in has an apple flavor, but then a sort of harsh midpalate and finish
Overall quite nice, but i feel like i have had several german rieslings in the same price point that are more crisp.

Light bodied and light golden color, nose of apple pie, exotic fruit including pineapple and melons, very bright and fruity, acidic bite, slight off dry finish. Unlike most whites I drink, I think this one has the ability to improve a little over a couple of years once the acidity comes into balance.

Light straw-colored, bright, tangy and appealing for its delicate green apple, peach, floral and lime flavors, lingering nicely and hinting at mineral on the long, pure, refreshing finish.

Golden color. Fruity nose. Palate of apples and pears with a hint of apricot. Some residual sweetness but adequate minerality and acidity to balance. Paired well with smoked ham and sweet potatoes.

This was nice; tasted sweeter than I'd have thought; I expected it to be more acidic and have more of a wow factor liek I'd experienced in previous years.

Wines of the Wild Wild Pacific Northwest (Farpointe Cellar): The nose had a lovely floral and mineral mixture. It also had a lot of honey, melon, and pineapple. In the mouth it was crisp and clean, with lemon, pineapple, and honey. It finished with a stone and floral flavor.

Pale yellow-green, with rich nose of peach, petrol, and pear juice. Great fruit as above, round and balanced with great depth and subtle acid that keeps everything in place. Long peachy finish.

A bit sweet without enough acid to frame it. A bit one dimensional with fatter fruit flavors. Slightly bubble gummy.
Clean and no flaws but ultimately boring as most new world rieslings are.

Straw yellow; honeysuckle, limes, orange peel; sweet lime, slightly minerally, elegant, light body, tangy acidity, good balance, decent structure, lingering finish.
Dry yet showing the sweet lime flavour of a good Mosel kabinett. Excellent stuff but the best North American Riesling comes from Hermann Wiemer in the Finger Lakes. Very nice with chinese chicken salad.

Antinori/Chateau St. Michelle: Less distinguished than my previous experience with this wine. On the nose, this lacks some of the expressiveness it showed before, and the flavors are rather flat and diluted.

Golden color in the glass. Tastes of green apple, peach, pear and other fruit, with a little acidity. A little sweetness, but a consistently dry, good quality Riesling, that is eminently drinkable.

I just consistently enjoy this wine. Light color in the glass, lighter than previous vintages. Green apple, and a touch of tropical fruits come through with balance and style. Light acid and that crispness that keeps coming thru year after year. Served with King Crab for a fantastic and simple meal. Probably Americas best consistent Dry Riesling...

Good acidity, however tonight I detect a bit of roughness on the midpalate. Not as smooth as I remember it being. Perhaps needs some time to mellow out?

This wine is always a crowd pleaser and pairs well with so many different foods, or simply good as a sipping wine. Loved the '05 and the '06 was consistent.

Straw color, pineapple, honeydew melon and honey on the nose. Delicate, balanced wine - nice acidic crispness to it. Hints of pear, peach & melon in the mouth. Went down very well with some sushi - will def. buy again ($19.99 from Costco).

Good with brie stuffed salmon, oysters and coconut shrimp. Ok nose, not as intense as other Dr. Loosen wines I've tasted. Semi dry.

Another fabulous showing for this one. This off-dry wine tastes and smells like peaches doused in lime juice, with substantial --almost sparkling-- minerality on the lengthy finish. Fabulous quality for $22. 91-93.

Mostly dry, with fragrant notes of peach and lime that carry through to the palate. Nice minerality on the substantial finish. Beautifully balanced wine that would pair well with anything spicy.
