Community Tasting Note

Friday, December 25, 2015 - Popped and poured and decanted for 90 minutes before even being TOUCHED. It took it another 2 hours to evolve after that but the integration is still a little lacking, and fruit structure is a little awkward. This one is still very youthful. On the nose is a bouquet of ripe blackberry and a little peppery kind of nose. The entry is soft, blackberry, middle with a little bit of herbs, smoke, and new leather. The finish did get increasingly more tannic as the wine opened. But, I was actually rather disappointed in the open. When compared to a 2005 Neal One Lane Bridge Mt Veeder, the amount of fruit on the front was shockingly lacking. This is a "tuxedo cab" IMO...it is meant to have smooth edges and the purr of a Ferrari. I am amazed by the youthfulness of this wine in both the fruit structure and lack of integration, which is why I think I just enjoyed this one a bit too early. IMO, this wine needs to be held another 3-4 years, unless you like to drink them young. The "window" for this wine is 2011-2025. For someone who likes to drink the wine at peak or slightly beyond peak, I'd say that this wine is probably more like 2017-2026.....but even in 2017 this one will probably be 1-2 years away from peak. Very enjoyable "Christmas" wine today!
