96 Points

Saturday, August 15, 2009 - This is one of, if not the, best California cabernets I have ever tasted. Why so special? It's because it marries perfectly the ultra-fruity ripeness of many of its peers but is much more layered, complex, and even elegant, a term almost foreign to my vocabulary for California wines. The texture is lush and velvety and the alcohol is completely hidden. I would have been positive there was a good dollop of Merlot in there if I did not know it was all cabernet sauvignon. The tannins and acidity are there, but amazingly well integrated for a four year old. There's a mixture of soft red and black fruits - blackberry, blueberry, raspberry. My only concern is that it will not live long at this level and I cannot imagine it will morph into something better or more interesting than it is right now.
