Wednesday, September 9, 2020 - Sauer - Ziereisen - Jura - Champagne; 9/9/2020-9/16/2020 (Escherndorf - Efringen-Kirchen - Arbois - Cramant/Bouzy/Verzenay): From 75cl traditional Burgundy-style bottle at Horst Sauer tasting room, opened previous day. Raised in barriques, this very serious wine is quite unlike any other Silvaner I have tasted and would be a cunning “pirate” to slip into a blind tasting of lighter, 1. Cru Chablis-style Chardonnay. Fresh oak scent; sparklingly fresh, gently sweet entry; ripe acidity already well integrated on the midpalate, some fine red apple fruit; long finish. This is delicious already, but will surely develop and improve over the next decade. Interestingly, this is the only Silvaner Horst Sauer offers in magnum, double magnum and jeroboam!
