1996 Château Léoville Barton

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

92 Points

Saturday, November 15, 2014 - Drinking wonderfully now, and will for some time to come. Beefy, savoury, leather, cedar and spice box on the nose. Savoury and tobacco on the palate, with fine tannins and good levels of acidity. A beautiful wine.

Just curious... you are using both "wonderful" and "beautiful" to describe this wine; further your note seems to indicate some significant complexity as well, judging by the number of adjectives used. You proceed to give it a 92 though.... why not more? What would a 96 or 97 sound like from you in that case?

11/19/2014 2:43:00 AM - Hello. Yes, on the day, I enjoyed this wine a lot: evolved, savoury and spice box secondary notes, fine tannins gave it it's complexity, it is a grownup, big framed wine with backbone and will drink nicely for another decade. This is Bordeaux! But it lacked the mid palate concentration and elegance for me and so I ascribed 95 points to 2004 LB, which I tasted on the same day, at Decanter's LB tasting with Lillian Sartorious-Barton.
