Saturday, January 28, 2023 - An unexpected contrast with the 2014. First attempt at tasting was basically pop n pour. Fiercely tannic, stalky, a black cherry bomb under a woodpile. Very surprising to me given how easy and fruit forward the 2014 was - I expected something immediately accessible in the ripe 2018 vintage.
Well, no way. So we poured most of our glasses back into the bottle and gave it a day in an evacuated bottle and tried again. Yes it was more evolved, much more pleasurable and the herbaceous element was much better integrated. But this seemed far from ready to drink. Going to bury my other bottles for quite some time. For now, strangely, a notch below 2014.
Score : 92 for now. Relative to expectations: +
