88 Points

Wednesday, January 20, 2010 - This hits me with two very striking things right off the bat - a rich, golden color and the distinct aroma of sage honey flowing from the glass. In the mouth this has an extremely oily texture. Floral on the palate with striking minerality and herbal notes. Somewhat similar to what I would imagine biting through the center of a rosebud would be like. Perhaps some tree fruit lingering in the background, pear maybe?

After a couple of hours in the decanter the flavors seem to have integrated a bit and the tree fruit makes more of an appearance on the midpalate. Overall the word resinous comes to mind....

This was a very unique wine! My first time with Obaideh. It has been a flavor journey and I have experienced things in a wine that I never had before! I can easily see this turning a lot of people off, but for me it is an easy 88.
