Tuesday, December 29, 2020 - Appearance: clear pale garnet.
Nose: medium intensity; aromas of sweet fennel, red cherry, raspberry, dried rose petal, red date, leather, black tea, subtle mushroom and tar. It's developing.
Palate: dry, high acidity, high chewy tannins, high alcohol, medium plus body, medium plus flavour intensity. Red fruits and coffee come through. The finish is medium plus.
Overall, it's a very good wine. Can drink now, has potential for further ageing.
The wine is still a baby. It only starts to open up after 2.5 hrs decanting. It seems to be quite modern in style, with very subtle tar and earthy notes. The red fruits and lifted sweet spice characters integrated quite well and there's some minerality at the back of the nose. The perfumed floral notes of roses come through more after 3-4 hrs interwoven with delicious fennel notes. Tasted through from 11:30am to 9pm, not sign of fatigue at all. This wine has a lot of years ahead!
