Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - Fascinating experience. Sweet, rich dried fruits, wet earth, mushroom, black tea, cigar spices, anise and violet. Very plush and full palate on entry, pushing through to a 20 plus second finish of plush tannins and spice that swell to a long crescendo.

I tried a bottle of this about 14 months ago. It was primary and grapey. I looked up some tasting notes, and saw one from the venerable Jim Cowan, who was similarly unimpressed. I put these wine in a box with some others that I planned on giving away, to someone with a less demanding palate. The experience almost made me reconsider buying these wines.

Since then, I have tried several other of my Belle Pentes', including the 2002 Murto, that, based on tasting notes, are apparently emerging from deep slumber. These wines truly shut down, and are a thrill when they come around.

An eye-opening experience, and an outstanding wine.
