Tuesday, November 22, 2022 - Italian Wine Scholar Class at the Texas Wine School. 100% Piedirosso. Med ruby. Med intensity tart red cherries and raspberries, tart red plum, smoke, tar and a slightly stemmy note. Reminiscent of Beaujolais. Dry, with med+ acidity, med tannins and alcohol (12.5%). The palate is consistent with the nose but also exhibits a pleasant savory minerality and a slightly bitter finish. This wine does not see any oak, but has an inherent smokiness due to the varietal and/or the growing conditions on volcanic soil. It is light to medium (-) bodied and is great w/ food. It is drinking well now and should continue to show well for several more years.
