Wednesday, May 21, 2014 - This was yet another wonderful wine from the folks at Jonata. I was intregued to see how an older vintage of Jonata's wines would be, and got a good opportuinty to find out. First of all, this is a pretty huge wine. Dark purple, blood red, light will only pass through the thinnest amount of this liquid. We tried a little straight out of the bottle, and found it still a little tight, but very good. A good 20 min in the glass and it really starts to open up, and continues on. We also tried decanting a bit as well and found roughly 2 hours to be the sweet spot before it starts to lose its beautiful nose. The really funny thing about this wine is how it responded to swirling. Immediately after a swirl it would become a little disjointed, but given a few minutes it would settle down again. Nose was a bit hot, with wonderful tart dark fruit and herbal notes. The taste was a dark tart fruit and cocoa on the front with firm tannins leading to a VERY long finish. I really seem to like the offerings from this vineyard as they really give a wine lover a lot to play with and enjoy. Lots of depth and quality here and I'm looking forward to enjoying some of the other varieties I currently have in the cellar. Cheers!
