Saturday, September 24, 2022 - This opaque crimson wine is an approximate blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre. Vinturi-decanted and serially tasted over the ensuing 2-3 hours, it is a medium-to-full-bodied red with dark bramble fruits, black cherries, Provençal herbs, clove, licorice and white pepper on both the nose and palate. Freshly acidic, judiciously oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (14.5%), it wraps its flavors with plentiful grippy tannins that will require some time to fully assimilate. Dense on the mid-palate and lengthy on the back end, this is an impressive Gigondas that will benefit from additional time in the cellar. Thereafter, it will have more longevity than most of its peers. If you opt to pop the cork at this early stage, give it plenty of air. Drink 2024-2032.
