Saturday, January 12, 2013 - First time conscientiously drinking Veuve Cicquot in many years. On the nose, this is reasonably broad, with green apple, pear, and a faint scent of mint. However, it lacks the rich, toasty aromas that distinguish my favorite Champagnes. On the palate this is remarkably narrow- a straight tart jet right down the center of the tongue. Even when rolled around the mouth, this never develops laterally. Not appallingly bad, but for the $50/bottle this commands at retail there are so many more compelling options. Fully neutral here; the Switzerland of champagne.
