93 Points

Friday, April 26, 2024 - 93+ and I think it will move up with a little more time. Classic Pesenti, fruit, fruit, and more fruit, perfumed, nuanced herbal and mushroom notes, finely integrated silky tannins, great acidity, lush, and smooth minerality. I hold the 2019 in pretty high regard and this one is *maybe* slightly less complex so far and pnp had a slightly harsh finish that blew off after an hour in the decanter and settled in nicely.

4/27/2024 7:22:00 AM - I don’t think it drank too young, but obviously don’t have an aged bottle of the same vintage to compare. I think I have four more of these that I’ll try and moderate over time. To @mark1npt’s point, this is in the window that Turley recommends; I’ve had one Pesenti at 8 ish years old (a 2015 I think) and it was extremely perfumed and like liquid sweet tarts - not sure if it was that vintage or if these can’t be held too long.

4/27/2024 8:06:00 AM - Yeah that always leaves me torn. Their cellar guide suggests some of them can easily hold 8-10 years and I’d believe it, but those are generally the norther CA offerings, and not sure if they improve over that time. It would be really interesting to do a vertical of some of these. I’ve been trying to keep one bottle of the Presenti (Zin and Petite Syrah) and one of the Ueberroth from each vintage to age, but that only goes back to 2018 in my collection so far.

4/27/2024 8:30:00 AM - I know people who drink them at 10 years, but to me they lose their 'zin-ness' after 5 years. Pesenti is always one of my favs given its acidity. '20 was the hottest wine year in Cali so these are a little off of their best.
